Wren’s one month tomorrow. We’re spending our time ogling at him and bringing him places to be ogled, so it’s just more pix for now.

seven days of dreamy

Wren has been with us one week. He is a magical small person. He has smiled, stared at Stella’s gigantic anvil head with unmistakable awe, slept a lot, eaten like a savannah beast, and just generally charmed the hell out of us. We are lucky. He’s a gem.

sunrise child

Unbeknownst to us, our dear friends Dusty and Keoki had long been planning to snap a picture of the sunrise on Wren’s birthday as a little gift for us. They’d been hunting around for just the right spot. When Sean got in touch that the baby was on his way, it was already daylight and we would have another 25 hours before our little gent arrived.

So that next morning, Dusty and Keoki made their way up to Inspiration Point and at 6:43AM they took out their cameras and got their shots. They were not aware that their picture represented the first full minute of our boy’s life. At 6:42AM on April 8, 2011, out past Fish Ranch Road and clear around the reservoir, Wren Wilder Kennedy Keating had just been born.

This is the moment Wren arrived. Beauty, everything beginning.

at long last

Okay, friends, here are four preggo pix.

At the very moments Sean took these, the little chappie was having himself some trapeze practice in there. He’s all parts where they should be and growing like the well-watered weeds out here in California. Any day now …

sweetest day

While most folks were busy with Super Bowl XLV, we spent this balmy, bright Sunday with the doors wide open and the dreamiest baby shower in full swing.

Veronica managed the whole event, giving us a day of activities that were the culmination of ideas from our closest comrades–we wanted to do something meaningful, but totally different than the usual set of shower games. Friends were invited to iron pictures of birds and words of their choice onto quilt squares for the little one. Some time soon, Roxanne will help me put the whole thing together into a keepsake quilt.

Each guest also charged a sacred stone with love and energy and then buried it in the dirt with narcissus bulbs. These full flower pots will be kept chilled until the baby is born, when they’ll be taken out once a month. As they warm up from their snooze, the bulbs will think it’s spring and bloom, releasing all that good energy from each stone nestled in there with so much love.

Jo knocked everyone out with a gorgeous local, seasonal, vegetarian menu. The asparagus pizza (homemade dough) did not make it into the pictures. Nor did the pomegranate açaí punch or red fruit cooler. Spectacular, all. I confess we also ate the espresso shortbread and lemon scones before Dusty could catch a picture of them.

Speaking of Dusty, she took all the photos, which did the perfect job reflecting how lovely, warm, and mellow the day was. I’m especially grateful to have a picture of my opening one of the gifts from my mother, a little cup my father used when he was just a baby. The whole day, really, I was just awash in the love, love, love of some pretty amazing women and it shows.

As you’ll see, we gathered in the living room to open presents, just a few of which are shown in the pix above. Generosity was the word of the day. Really the extraordinary highlight was nestling in together and watching the heartwarming video that Cathy put together for our babe. I’m really just blown away by it. And I gotta say, I was not alone in crying during the viewing! It was tissues all around.

Thanks, everyone, for a day I’ll always cherish. Love.

google goo

So yes, the Google url shorteners expire. We should have thought of that. What that means is that the registry address we sent out on our announcement has since gone bad. But never fear. Still want to have a gander at our registry? Look no further. Behold, the registry. That’s http://www.kaboodle.com/kennedykeating/baby-registry.html for those who want to jot it down for later.

To avoid any confusion around how Kaboodle works, we’ve also gone ahead and removed the gifts that we’ve already received from friends and family. Thank you! If something is still on the list, that means we have not received it. Either someone has reserved it (it will say so) or it is available for you to select.

Hope that helps make shopping a little easier and more fun for everyone. Thanks for hanging in there and please let us know if you’re bewildered.

secret santa

Calling all friends and family. Who was the anonymous comrade who sent us the beautiful changing table? We’re so grateful to have received it over the holidays and want to send some love and appreciation. Was it you? Let us know!
